Isopropyl alcohol—also known as 2-propanol—is a common organic solvent and chemical raw material with the chemical formula C₃H₈O. At room temperature, it is a colorless, transparent liquid with an odor resembling a mixture of ethanol and acetone.

Product Usage

Industrial Solvent: A relatively inexpensive industrial solvent widely used in sectors such as coatings, inks, rubber, and resins; it also serves frequently as a cleaning and degreasing agent, particularly in the electronics industry.

Disinfectant: An aqueous solution with a concentration of approximately 70% is commonly used as a disinfectant; it can kill vegetative bacteria and most lipophilic viruses—though not bacterial spores—and is frequently used for disinfecting skin and medical instruments.

Chemical Intermediate: It can be used to produce substances such as acetone, isopropylamine, and methyl isobutyl ketone, which serve as important raw materials for pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals.

Other Uses: It also functions as an antifreeze, an extraction agent, and a standard for chromatographic analysis, as well as an ingredient in cosmetics and household chemical products.
