Isophorone Diisocyanate

Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), with the chemical formula C12H18N2O2, is an alicyclic diisocyanate. It is one of the least reactive among commonly used diisocyanates, exhibiting a steady reaction rate; its two isocyanate groups differ in reactivity by approximately tenfold, a characteristic that facilitates the preparation of various prepolymers. Additionally, its low vapor pressure makes it safer to handle. It serves as a curing agent for the hydroxyl-terminated prepolymers (specifically polypropylene glycol) used in polyurethane binders for composite propellants. It is widely applied in industries such as plastics, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, and fragrances.
